About Minh and Tim
Minh and Tim first met in 2014 in a Twitch chatroom. Both sharing a love for video games at the time, they quickly became friends and spent years fostering their friendship while playing games together. In recent years, after taking a couple trips to New York they discovered that they both had a passion for food and want to share their passion with likeminded individuals or those interested in their stories.
About Minh
My fascination with food started at a young age. Growing up my family did not have cable television, so my options were limited. A favorite channel between my brother and I was Channel 26 (PBS).
During the day we would watch shows like Dragon Tails and Sesame Street but by nighttime they had finished their scheduled airtime. I would then tune into shows airing at the time starring Jacques Pépin, Julia Child, Lidia Bastianich, and other famous chefs.
The first thing I can recall “cooking” was limeade. While I cannot remember how it tasted back then, the joy I felt when my parents would praise how “perfectly sweetened” it was remains in my memory.
Inspired by the words of praise from my parents and the cooking shows I watched I would often frequent the kitchen to help my mom with our meals whenever I had a chance, from cutting up vegetables to frying fish I learned a lot. While I had many other passions that I pursued throughout my childhood, food and cooking was always something that remained constant.
With the advent of the Internet and YouTube myself and many others have been able to discover a wide array of foods that I could never have even imagined as a child and now, more than ever I am excited to experiment with new flavors, have new experiences, and be able to share it with you all along the way!
About Tim
I was born and raised in Georgia, to a southern mom and Haitian dad. Some of my best experiences with food came from these two cuisines.
I know everyone says their grandma has the best cooking, but I genuinely think mine ranked pretty high up there. Her renditions of classic Haitian and Caribbean foods were something you just couldn’t find anywhere else in America.
On the other hand, my mother’s family is from Alabama and would let me experience things like catch and cook fried catfish, rabbit, and southern comfort food like sweet potato pie, macaroni casserole, and yams.
Between my two sides of the family I was able to pick up a few cooking skills, but my teaching was limited, and I never really experienced other cultures of food. Even with what little I knew , you couldn’t keep me away from the kitchen. Once my world was opened to the many cuisines of the world, there was no going back.
Now that I’ve grown up and have the freedom to explore the world, I would like to see everything it has to offer, and share what my family has passed on to me as well.
